PUNK UNIVERSITY, A PART OF THE “YOUNG EUROPEAN AUTHORS” PROGRAMME

From 15th to 21st July the European Film Festival Palic in cooperation with the FOKUS Foundation from Subotica will organize phenomenological studies of today under the title PUNK UNIVERSITY. This University deals with the contemporary social phenomena which have been neither analysed nor noticed by domestic academic and general public. The central subject of this year’s university is “Social Networking” (modern networking of individuals in the social vacuum).

MESSER CHUPS CONCERT IN YOUNG EUROPEAN FILMMAKERS PROGRAMME

Young European Filmmakers programme proudly presents russian surf electro horror show MESSER CHUPS from St. Petersbourg.The band was founded in 1998. by Oleg Gitarkin, after his work with MFFM. Since then Messer Chups released 5 albums including the best of collection. The group members are Sveta Nagćva (bass) and Oleg Gitarkin (guitar). Their music is followed with samples from russian 60's B-horror films gathered by Gitarkin.

Legendary Plastic People of the Universe live at 14th European Film Festival Palic

European Film Festival Palic proudly presents concert of legendary Czech underground band Plastic People of the Universe which will play in Young European Filmmakers program on 18th of July. This will be rare opportunity to feel one of the most authentic rock’n’roll stories ever. The Plastic People of the Universe are best know for their crucial role in the political history of the "Eastern Bloc". The band formed in 1968 as Russian tanks rolled into Prague. Though the band was not overtly political, their radical improvised music and the culture which formed around them soon attracted the attention of the Communist State. Harassed, intimidated, and finally imprisoned, the band continued to persevere with their artistic vision. In 1976, when several members were arrested again, their trial became a lightning-rod for discontent throughout Czechoslovakia.

PREPARATIONS FOR 14th EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL PALIC

14th edition of European Film Festival Palic runs from 16th to 22nd of July. Selector of Official competitive program is Nikolai Nikitin, chief editor of prestigeous German film magazine "Der Schnitt". The Festival will present about 75 films in 6 programs and will preserve successful concept founded in 2003. This year focus will be on Norwegian cinematography and audience will have opportunity to watch recent production through New Norwegian Film program which is made in cooperation with Norsk Filminstitutt. Young European Filmmakers program will present fresh currents and newcomers of european film art through screenings of short, animated, experimental and documentary films by the lake shore, together with live concerts of alternative and inventive bands from Europe and the Region. Besides qualitative presentation of recent European film production EFF Palic will offer side programs which will make your Palic days a pleasent experience.

DECISION OF THE INTERNATIONAL JURY

International Jury of the European Film Festival Palic held from 15th – 21st July 2006. at Palic, Subotica Serbia was composed of:


Ms. Neda Arneric, Actress, Serbia, President of the Jury

Mr. Benedek Fliegauf, Director, Hungary

Mr. Dietrich Bruggemann, Director, Germany

Ms. Franziska Weisz, Actress, Austria

Mr. Srdjan Koljevic, Director, Serbia

 Upon viewing the Official Selection of 12 films, the International Jury by majority vote has adopted the following DECISION:

 1. The Special Prize for the best acting is awarded to Cillian Murphy in the film: BREAKFAST ON PLUTO, directed by Neil Jordan (Ireland, UK). This film finds the extraordinary humurous and human angle in confronting individual destiny and turbulent times.

 2. PALIC TOWER, for the Unique Artistic Approach goes to the film TOUGH ENOUGH directed by Detlev Buck, (Germany), for courageous exploring of the less pleasant truths in the world of contemporary urban adolescence.

 3. PALIC TOWER for the Best Achievment in Directing goes to the film SLUMMING by Michćl Glawogger, (Austria, Switzerland, Germany), for outstanding and unique artistic expression in portraying the challenges of modern Europe.

 4. GOLDEN TOWER for the best film of the European Film Festival Palic 2006., is awarded to the film GRAVEHOPPING directed by Jan Cvitkovic, (Slovenia, Croatia), for the original combination of human and philosophic aspects in telling the stories of our unordinary ordinary lives.       

 


DECISION OF THE INTERNATIONAL JURY OF CRITICS

  International Jury of Critics of the European Film Festival Palic held from 15th – 21st July 2006. at Palic, Subotica Serbia was composed of:

 1. Ronald Bergan, UK

2. Dr. Martin John Blaney, Germany

3. Christian Monggaard, Denmark.

 Upon viewing the Parallels and Encounters section of the festival the International Jury of Critics by vote has adopted the following DECISION:

 1. The special mention award to the movie SOMETHING LIKE HAPPINESS, by Bohdan Slama (Czech Republic)

 2. The Gorki List Tolerance Award goes to LADY ZI, by Georgij Djulgerov (Bulgaria), a film that treats with great sympathy and stylistic originality the difficulties of outsiders in a society in transition.
