DECISION OF THE INTERNATIONAL JURY
|
The International Jury of the 17th European Film Festival Palić held at Palić, Subotica, Serbia 17th – 23rd July 2010 was composed of: Mr. Hans Christian Leitich, film critic, Austria - President of the Jury Ms Jaana Puskala, Finnish Film Foundation (Head of Feature Film Promotion), Finland - member Mr. Eran Kolirin, Director, Israel - member Ms Iva Krajnc, Actress, Slovenia - member Mr. Vladimir Paskaljević, Director and Screenwriter, Serbia - member
Upon viewing the Official Competition Selection of 12 films, the International Jury made the following DECISION:
GOLDEN TOWER FOR THE BEST FILM – HOW I ENDED THE END OF THE SUMMER, Aleksei Popogrebsky
Expanding the concept of a psycho thriller, a maximum of effects with a minimum of means is achieved by superb use of sound design, naturalistic as well as symbolic images and directing the actors. This is used for a message, which underlines the necessity to communicate in an alienated world, between people, between generations, between old and new schools of thinking.
PALIĆ TOWER FOR THE BEST DIRECTOR – THE ROBBER, Benjamin Heisenberg
For extracting a beautiful thesis about compulsiveness as a mean for salvation and the everlasting struggle for freedom - in the disguise of a genre film. By displaying a variety of narrative rhythms, the film manages to move between naturalism in daily routines and the pace of the protagonist's soul.
SPECIAL MENTION – GORDOS, Daniel Sánchez Arévalo
For celebrating the lust for life and making us hungry and horny in times of crisis. Funny films are important, and they are easily overlooked - so we were pleased to give a special mention to a colorful play on the tragicomic subject of body weight.

INTERVIEW: ALEKSEI POPOGREBSKY, DIRECTOR OF HOW I ENDED THE END OF THE SUMMER
“I came to the Palić Festival with my wife Jelena (art photographer) from Berlin. I am on a tour that started at Karlovy Vary and will end in Sarajevo. Although geography is my passion, I didn’t even know that Palic Lake existed, and so the Film Festival,. My friend, selector Nikolai Nikitin, invited me. I am delighted by idyllic nature, lake, your cuisine, and most of all by kajmak”, says director Aleksei Popogrebsky.
As soon as he arrived, he headed to the Grand Terrace, where Young Spirit of Europe was going on. He was fascinated by vividness and number of young people that were attracted by independent film.
“Atmosphere of the Festival reminds me of Houses of Art in former USSR. I am not informed if you had something similar in SFRY in socialism. Those were places where writers, scientists and journalists relaxed, enjoyed themselves, watched films and made friends. It is very pleasant at Palić and different from all other festivals, even Moscow festival.
Your film HOW I ENDED THE END OF THE SUMMER, that won three Silver Bears (two for acting and one for photography), we will be able to see tonight in the Official Selection. Russian reporters i ...

ROUND TABLE: THE FUTURE OF THE EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL PALIĆ
The question regarding the future of the European Film Festival Palić was raised at the round table discussion yesterday at the JP Park Palić, when Dinko Tucaković, the host, asked the participants of the discussion when the cinema theatres in Subotica and Serbia died out, letting film festivals take their place. How should one balance between its royal highness - the Film, which has to stay at the very focus of the Festival, unavoidable accompanying programmes and festival atmosphere, which is necessary but not a goal itself, asked Tucaković.
