Thirty brave and challenging films in Young Spirit of Europe program

Young Spirit of Europe program of the 25 jubilee European Film Festival Palić, this year presents selection by Neil Young – extraordinary films by brave and inventive authors of unique poetics and attitude towards art of film. The program screens feature films, documentaries, short films, experimental films, animated films and all existing forms of film arose in search for new artistic expressions and possible perspective of the future cinema.

We highlight 49-minute long BRAGUINO by unpredictable French author Clement Cogitore, which will be premiered at the Festival. The film is stunning and disturbing story about unorthodox family living in remote part of Russia. Totally different documentary by this talented director LES INDES GALANTES will be screened the same night.

Two shorts by Wiener directorial duet Billy Roisz and Dieter Kovačič are also worth mentioning. From their rich list of experimental films and music videos the Festival will screen PARIS, video made by Billy for Norwegian punk/noise band Moe and SCARY OBJECTS her and Dieter shot for Austrian band Radian. After the screenings Billy and Dieter will perform part of their latest project RISC.

Probably the most interesting 2018 film is 9-minute long MASKIROVKA by German photographer Tobias Zielony who spent several years documenting Ukrainian underground scene. It is the silent film where images of extravagant young clubbers preparing for the night out mixes with street protests and government repression.

Young Spirit of Europe Program will take part at Summer stage of Abazija cinema theatre in Paliću. This year’s programmer is film critic  Neil Young who most of his time spends at the film festivals around the globe, reporting for American film magazine The Hollywood Reporter, British Sight & Sound, Tribune, and many others.

“Young Spirit presents a vivid and bold survey of experimental, avant-garde, offbeat, underground and unclassifiable cinema from all over the continent. Hardly any of it has been shown in Serbia before and two of the films are world premieres. There are music videos, documentaries, narrative films, abstract works, found-footage extravaganzas, some animation, some weird oddities, and a hefty chunk of films which engage with political and social issues in surprising and aesthetically accomplished ways. Every night for six nights at 10pm in the outdoor cinema at Abazija, audiences are invited to embark on a journey into the wildest reaches of the Europe’s cinematic universe.”, stated Neil Young.

Apart from mentioned, the program will also screen French short MARTIN CRIES by Jonathan Vinel, English short DEAD CENTRE by Michael Pattison that shows how everyday urban living plays out against a site of zombie capitalism, then ARRABIDA: THERE IS ONLY ONE EARTH that explores the way time is physically embedded in the matter, Spanish THE FLY and SHADOWS, Swiss TRANSITIONS, visual meditation ALOGON by Milan Milosavljević and Marko Kostić, Moscow Death Brigade video spot BOLTCUTTER, abstract video constructions SHIFT SYMM by Holland author Zenno van den Broek, 29 POINT PROGRAMME by Dietmar Brehm, THE FALL OF LENIN – an interesting view of destructed monuments of Lenin in Ukraine by Anna Jermolaewa and finally world premiere of film by Bojan Tutić  STREET CRY
