     FILM PROGRAMMES:

   1. OFFICIAL SELECTION

Official Selection is dedicated to those European films that provoke issues about destiny of European man, simultaneously pointing at the beauty and importance of diversity within European region.

These European films easily get to the audience as the identification with their protagonists is so real and possible both in their misery and their happiness. Emotions from the screen get emotional response from the audience.

This year’s selection of 14 films made festival’s programmers Petar Mitrić and Szabolcs Tolnai and Art Director of the Festival Nikolaj Nikitin. The films are in competition for “Golden Tower” for the best film of the Festival and two “Palić Towers”, for the Best Director and Special Jury Award. The films are going to be judged by five-member international jury. The selection is going to be screened at the Summer Stage, Palić.

   2. PARALLELS AND ENCOUNTERS

Competition programme “Parallels and Encounters” is dedicated to feature films and documentaries from former Eastern European geopolitical region and deals with problems of transition of societies and political systems, ethnic relations, identity and need for peace and co-existence, tolerance in the widest sense.

Quality of the films is going to be evaluated by three-member INTERNATIONAL CRITIC JURY composed of eminent European film critics.
Programmer’s team consists of Petar Mitrić, Szabolcs Tolnai and Nikolaj Nikitin. 10 films within this program are going to be screened in Eurocinema film theater in Subotica.

   3. YOUNG SPIRIT OF EUROPE

“Young Spirit of Europe” programme is dedicated to brave and inventive authors of unique poetics and attitude towards film. The programme shows features, documentaries, shorts, experimental, animated and all other possible forms of film seeking for new ways of expression and future of this art.
The program consists of 13 new films selected by programmer’s team (Petar Mitrić and Szabolcs Tolnai) . The program is going to take place at the Abazija Cinema in Palić.

   4. NEW HUNGARIAN FILM

Culture is something you can always count on while seeking the way of understanding and acceptance. Traditional program “New Hungarian Film” has already been of a great help as a part of culture, trying, trough the art of film, to find those who are open to learn about Hungary. The program is inspired by the fact that there is a great population of ethnic Hungarians in the Province of Vojvodina, that hasn’t got opportunity to be in touch with the trends of contemporary Hungarian film production. Programmer of the selection is Zoltan Siflis.

   5. BALTIC FOCUS

In the last few decades European film experienced great changes. Small and big national cinemas cannot be differed anymore. At the European film scene there are numerous changes and sudden happenings that put certain cinemas in the center of interest. This is why, ten years ago, we introduced “Cinema in Focus” program which presents some of the most important and most interesting film productions in Europe every year. So far Festival presented cinemas of Sweden, Belgium, Norway, Finland, Austria, Bavaria, Israel, Russia, Check Republic, Poland, Turkey, Georgia and Slovakia.

This year is reserved for Baltic countries cinema, Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia. These cinemas are traditionally present at Palić Festival in almost every programme so that introduction of their lead authors isn’t necessary. Within 23 Festival we are going to present contemporary authors, restored classics and also the selection of shorts and animated films this region is well known for.

The programme was selected in cooperation with Lithuanian Film Center, Estonian Film Institute and Latvian Film Center. Baltic Focus programme screenings are going to take place at Aleksandar Lifka Art Cinema in Subotica.

   6. ECO DOX

We live in the world where we can clearly see dreadful impact of human deeds on natural environment and planet Earth in general and on the other hand we experience growing conscious for necessity of actions towards peace between human kind and nature. Referring to this, seven years ago, we started program that deals with ecological documentaries. In this program there are 6 films of the newest production. Program is being followed by a vivid debate as well as scientific conference during the Festival, where experts and activists in the field of environmental protection have an opportunity to contemplate various topics and issues. Programmer of the selection is Igor Toholj. The screenings are going to take place at Open University’s Film Club in Subotica

   7. HOMAGE PROGRAMME TO “ALEKSANDAR LIFKA” AWARD WINNERS

European Film Festival Palić established award Aleksandar Lifka in 1999 for the exceptional contribution to the European cinema. So far, laureates were Lucian Pintilie, Krzysztof Zanussi, Jiri Menzel, Andrzej Wajda, Miklos Jancso, Margarethe von Trotta, Theo Angelopoulos, Ken Russell, Ken Loach, Costa Gavras, Jean-Marc Barr, Nikita Mihalkov and Claude Lelouch. The award of the same title every year goes to a national author as well. Some of the winners are: Dušan Makavejev, Eva Ras, Gordan Mihić, Milena Dravić, Puriša Đorđević, Živojin Mitrović, Velimir Bata Živoinović, Goran Marković, Predrag Miki Manojlović, Goran Marković, Goran Paskaljević, Srđan Karanović, Zoran Simjanović, Emir Kusturica, Mira Banjac and Želimir Žilnik. The Award got its name after the regional pioneer of cinema – Aleksandar Lifka who, beck in 1905, established first cinema theater in Subotica.

   8. HOMAGE PROGRAMME TO WINNERS OF UNDERGROUND SPIRIT AWARD

European Film Festival Palić established Underground Spirit Award for dedication to independent cinema and unique poetics that emerged off the main stream of film industry and leading cinemas. Underground Spirit laureates’ retrospectives are going to take place at Abazija Cinema in Palić.

   9. CLASSICS ON THE SQUARE

In order to present finest pieces from the European cinema history, with top quality picture and sound, European Film Festival Palić sets the open air cinema once again at the one of the most beautiful squares of our country. We are going to screen selection of 5 restored and digitalized films. Citizens of Subotica and guests will be able to see five European filmmakers’ masterpieces, provided in cooperation with film institutes and archives of European countries.

 10. “SHORT MATTERS!” SHORT FILM SELECTION NOMINATED FOR THE 2015 EUROPEAN FILM ACADEMY AWARD 

We present Programme SHORT MATTERS! for the third time now in cooperation with European Film Academy. We are going to screen 15 European short films nominated by the leading film festivals including Rotterdam, Berlin, Krakow, Venice, Locarno, Valladolid and others. Programme is going to take place during three days at Abazija Cinema in Palić.

   11. EYE TO EYE

Eye to Eye is Pan-European initiative dedicated to high school and university audience aiming to increase presence of European independent cinema. In cooperation with French company Wide Management as a project carrier, the programme will introduce 5 feature films for young audience. Jurry consists of five young cinephiles, Open University’s Film School and Film Club attendants. Awarded film will be screened to young high school audience during the October in Subotica, Novi Sad and Belgrade. Project EYE TO EYE is supported by the European Commission through the Creative Europe and MEDIA programmes.

   12. BEST OF EUROPE 2015

Eurocinema, as an annual European Film Festival project, dedicated to contemporary European cinema, is going to present selection of 7 most important European films that entered Serbian cinema distribution. As an introduction to 2016 audience will have chance to recall of some last year’s titles. The selection is going to be screened at Fontana cinema theatre in New Belgrade as well.

  13. PALIĆ IN BELGRADE

Last four years Belgrade audience was able to watch selection of the Festival’s films at Fontana cinema in New Belgrade simultaneously with Palić audience. The selection will consist of attractive titles from Official Competition, Parallels and Encounters, Young Spirit of Europe and Baltic Focus.
