Clasics on the Square

In this year’s pre-festival programme at Subotica’s Town Square, we present five high-quality film classics of rich European cinema. Programme starts with extraordinary film by Volker Schlöndorff TIN DRUM (1979) filmed by the eponymous masterpiece of Nobel laureate Gunter Grass. The Film got Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and Golden Palm in Cannes (1979). Next piece is famous Hungarian film LOVE by Károly Makk from 1971, restored and screened in this year’s Cannes’ Classics programme. Since Baltic cinema is in this years’ focus, we present an excellent Latvian documentary by Herz Frank and Vladimir Eisner THERE WERE SEVEN SIMEONS (1989), film about true incident that shocked Soviet and World public. Lithuanian Classic FEELINGS (1968) was chosen a best Lithuanian film of all times on the Lithuanian cinema 100 year anniversary. Finally, in the cooperation with Estonian Film Institute we present restored copy of cult 1979 film DEAD MOUNTAINEER’S HOTEL a noir science-fiction made at the time of USSR iron curtain.
