Films that show LGBT relations practically do not exist in Polish cinema says Tomasz Wasilewski for the Festival Newsletter. His FLOATING SKYSCRAPERS, the second feature film in his career, is among pioneers on the theme.

GÜNES SAYIN, ACTRESS AND NADIR OPERLI, PRODUCER OF THE FILM OUR GRAND DESPAIR

TRIANGLE IN THE MIRROR

Film OUR GRAND DESPAIR is an adaptation of a novel of the same name by a young writer Baris Bicakci. What was he cooperation like between the director and the writer while working on the script?
Operli: In the first film, SUMMER BOOK, director Seifi Teoman used one of Baris’s short stories as an inspiration for one of the scenes. This is how we met in 2007. When we were thinking about what could be next Seifi’s project, we came up with the idea that it might be something based on Baris’s works, since we are fans of his prose. That’s how we came to work on the adaptation of his book. After that, the two of them met and established a very good communication, as they share similar sensibilities, have similar opinions on love and friendship and relations between people. Baris has been involved in all stages of development of the scenario, and was also present at the shooting. For example, if something did not go well on the set, he would always offer to help. After shooting they became very good friends, therefore it’s one of the best collaboration between the writer and director that I had the opportunity to see.
Sayin: I was not present during the preparations for the film, but Baris’s presence on the set was of great importance for my confidence. Since he is not a talkative man, his look or quiet approval were enough to know that I'm on the right track
In that sense he was very helpful and instilled confidence in everyone. It was important for me that on the shooting, the writer who has lived with the story for years was also present. A modest man who did a lot from the background to make this film speak the language of reality
