Film, as a motive of contemplation over our contemporary life, represents matrix, for the European Film Festival Palic, to select its “film menu”. This year there is a special selection of 10 films, titled “How The War Started on My Balkans Peninsula?”. It is a pre-text for the round table with the same topic. The round table is organized on the 20th anniversary of the beginning of the breakdown of SFRJ and also the beginning of four-year-long war of Yugoslav tribes. The first victim in this war, as in any other modern one, was the truth. Ambition of the round table is to critically reflect that period, trough a dialogue between prominent intellectuals from the Ex-Yu region, hoping that a learnt truth could create certain catharsis.
About 20 intellectuals, of various professional orientations, will be involved in reflecting the theme: philosophers, sociologists, political scientists, historians, novelists, film theorists and film directors. We have chosen participants, from the Ex-Yu region, well known for their critical attitude towards the truths of their national and world’s political elites, regarding causes, protagonists and consequences of the SFRJ breakdown. Discussion will be focused on three questions: 1. Was the cause of dissolution embedded in the very foundation of SFRJ, and if it was, to what extent? 2. What was the role of political oligarchies in dissolution and warfare? 3. To what extent was the International community involved in all these processes?
