INTERVIEW: ZORAN SIMJANOVIĆ, COMPOSER OF MUSIC FOR THE FILM BESA
„It is not the sensitive theme that matters so much, but the time when it happened. On the eve of World War I, we have a Serb and Slovenian girl who met in Wiena, and it was very interesting to find out what their music could be, as well as the music playing when the army is marching and going to war", says Zoran Simjanović describing music in the film BESA.
This dilema, as he states, at the begining was solved by the idea that it should be Franz Schubert's „Gretel". Simjanović says that he and director Srđan Karanović agreed about this at once ...

Film BARONS by Belgium director of a Moroccan origin Nabil Ben Yadir (31), is screened at Palić Festival in two programs - Official Selection and in New Belgium Film program (tomorrow at Open University at 4pm). Comedy at first sight, but social drama really, the film speaks about three friends of Moroccan origin from Brussels's suburbs, who call themselves "barons", and who spend their days doing nothing according to peculiar theory that the less one works, the more his inner life becomes richer.
The plot of BARONS takes place in part of Brussels you grew up in. How many autobiographic elements are there in your film? Many of them. I witnessed or participated myself in ma ...

SRĐAN KARANOVIĆ, SCREENWRITER AND DIRECTOR OF THE FILM BESA, MEMBER THE FESTIVAL COUNCIL
The film BESA by Srđan Karanović, a member of the Festival Council, starring Iva Krajnc (a Jury member), Miki Manojlović and Nebojša Dugalić, will be shown in the Official Selection, out of competition. Karanović gives us a portrayal of an (im)possible love between a Slovenian woman and an Albanian man, in a small Serbian town, on the eve of the World War II, at the time when love really meant something and when "to give one's word" meant to actually keep it.
You have underlined in the film that "besa" means "word of honour". Why has it nowadays become almost absurd to give one's word and actually keep it? The mai ...

ROUND TABLE: THE FUTURE OF THE EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL PALIĆ
The question regarding the future of the European Film Festival Palić was raised at the round table discussion yesterday at the JP Park Palić, when Dinko Tucaković, the host, asked the participants of the discussion when the cinema theatres in Subotica and Serbia died out, letting film festivals take their place. How should one balance between its royal highness - the Film, which has to stay at the very focus of the Festival, unavoidable accompanying programmes and festival atmosphere, which is necessary but not a goal itself, asked Tucaković.
