MIKI MANOJLOVIĆ PRESENTED WITH ALEKSANDAR LIFKA AWARD


 

We would like to inform you that on Wednesday, 7th July, Serbian actor Predrag Miki Manojlović was presented with the Aleksandar Lifka Award of the European Film Festival Palić, at the Open University in Subotica.

The presentation of the award, the Festival traditionally gives for outstanding contribution to European cinema, was held at 12 o'clock, and the award was presented by the Festival Director, Radoslav Zelenović.  
 
After the ceremony, Miki Manojlović participated in an informal conversation with reporters and the audience, and later he also visited the venues at which the European Film Festival Palić is held.


Another Aleksandar Lifka Award winner at the last year's 16th European Film Festival Palić, was the famous British director Ken Russell, who was also a guest of the Festival. For pers ...

ECO DOX – ENVIRONMENTAL DOCUMENTARIES AT THE 17th EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL PALIĆ


 

The Eco Dox section of the 17th European Film Festival Palić presents five documentary films about environmental issues selected by Igor M. Toholj.
 
 
The Eco Dox programme presents the following films: Severn, the Voice of Our Children (Severn, La voix de nos enfants) by Jean-Paul Jaud, The Yes Men Fix the World by Andy Bichlbaum, Mike Bonanno and Kurt Engfehr, US So2 Serbia by Nebojša Pjević, The End of the Line by Rupert Murrey and Plastic Planet by Werner Boote.

PRESS CONFERENCE OF THE 17th EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL PALIĆ


 

A press conference of the 17th European Film Festival Palić was held at the Museum of Yugoslav Film Archives on the 24th of June. The participants were Radoslav Zelenović, director of the Festival, Blažo Perović, director of the Open University in Subotica (executive producer of the Festival), Nikolaj Nikitin, selector of the Official Selection, Petar Mitrić, selector of the Parallels the Encounters and the Young Spirit of Europe, and Miroslav Mogorović, executive director of the Festival. They talked about the programme, guests and future objectives.

NATIONAL CINEMA AT THE 17th EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL PALIĆ


 

The forthcoming 17th edition of the European Film Festival Palić will present a number of national cinematic achievements - from films by renowned directors like Želimir Žilnik and Srđan Karanović to representatives of the new filmmakers generation such as Dane Komljen. 


Films The Woman with a Broken Nose by Srđan Koljević and Besa by Srđan Karanović will be screened in the Official Selection of the Festival.

PARALLELS AND ENCOUNTERS


 
At the 17th European Film Festival Palić, the competition programme Parallels and Encounters will present 10 Eastern European feature films dealing with cultural, historical and social diversity of this part of the Old Continent.

Films from this section will compete for the Tolerance Award, established in 2006 and given by the International Critics’ Jury. Last year’s winner of the Award was the Bulgarian neo-noir film Zift, by a unanimous decision of the Jury.

Next year, on the 100th anniversary of the first permanent cinema in Subotica, a scientific almanac will be published devoted to Aleksandar Lifka - concluded participants of yesterday's round table, who talked about Lifka, his works and deeds.

ROUND TABLE: THE FUTURE OF THE EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL PALIĆ

The question regarding the future of the European Film Festival Palić was raised at the round table discussion yesterday at the JP Park Palić, when Dinko Tucaković, the host, asked the participants of the discussion when the cinema theatres in Subotica and Serbia died out, letting film festivals take their place. How should one balance between its royal highness - the Film, which has to stay at the very focus of the Festival, unavoidable accompanying programmes and festival atmosphere, which is necessary but not a goal itself, asked Tucaković.

Newly Constituted Festival Council

On Friday, 26th February, the Council of the European Film Festival Palić held a meeting. On that occasion, a new Festival Council was constituted, composed of: Srđan Karanović, Mira Banjac, Branislav Lečić, Szabolcs Tolnai, Ferenc Deak, Zoltan Siflis and Ivan Vujić. The meeting was also attended by Radoslav Zelenović, the Festival director, Blazo Perović on behalf of the Open University as the executive producer of the Festival, Miroslav Mogorović, a programme director, and Petar Mitrić, a representative of the selection team.

THE DIRECTOR AT THE ONLY STRICTLY EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL IN THE WORLD

NO BUSINESS LIKE MONKEY BUSINESS This past week I spent five days in Palic, Serbia, at the only strictly European film festival in the world, now in its 16th year. I premiered my latest film, Boudica Bites Back, starring my wife Lisi, pictured below, at a giant outdoor screening. Ninety-four films are screened over an official seven days, with 19 extra days showing pre and post-festival films for the festival hardcores who can’t bear to go home. The musician Mick Harvey, co-founder with Nick Cave of the Bad Seeds, was also there.
