Eco Dox program at the 27th Palić

Eco Dox program at the 27th Palić

The 27th European Film Festival Palić, held this year from September 12 to 18 in Subotica and Palić, will present the Eco Dox program, based on documentaries dedicated to the challenges of environmental protection. This year, the festival is being held at  EuroCinema and Lifka Art Cinema in Subotica, as well as in Abazija Cinema in Palić. The audience will be presented with more than 100 films from all over Europe, in 15 different programs and program units.

Igor Toholj, the programmer of the Eco Dox program, has selected eight films that are on the repertoire of Art Cinema Lifka, from September 13 to 18, every day at 4 p.m. In the explanation of this year's selection, Toholj pointed out that films made by women stand out, with a lot of respect for the essence of earthly life in its pure form. "Directors of KIRUNA, WHEN TOMATOES MET WAGNER, THEN COMES THE EVENING, through visual refinement, proper treatment and empathy, make even ordinary people become bigger than a cruel life in which they are often only extras without any significant role a priori.", concluded the program programmer and added: "On the other hand, directors stand out by engaging and revealing the truth in the treatment of both global and seemingly local themes in current environmental documentarism. Their field of interest ranges from a dramatic appeal for the salvation of the planet, dedication to the unadulterated beauty of nature and its sustainability to pointing out endangered animal and plant species, on land and under water. And all this is dressed in the spirit of authorship and creative documentary approach."

Film THEN COMES THE EVENING by Maja Novaković shows Bitter poetry of everyday life in the isolated hills of Eastern Bosnia shows the care and intimacy of the grannies, both in their mutual relations and in relationship with nature. Czech author Greta Stocklassa directed film KIRUNA, A BRAND NEW WORLD, which is a portrait of both a utopian and a dystopian city, but also an uncompromising reflection of today's society. WHEN TOMATOES MET WAGNER by Greek director Marianna Economou is a bittersweet story of two ingenious Greek cousins who defy industrial farming by cultivating organic tomatoes sensitive to Wagner‘s music.

The program will also include films THE GARDEN OF THE TRITON by Dragan Stojmenović, 66 METERS - RAISING SEA LEVELS by German directors Max Mönch and Alexander Lahl, WOLVES AT THE BORDER by Czech director Martin Páv, German-Austrian production BUT BEAUTIFUL by director Erwin Wagenhofer, and NOW directed by German author Jim Rakete.

The Palić European Film Festival was supported by the European Union through the Creative Europe MEDIA program, Serbian Ministry of Culture, Provincial Secretary of Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities of Vojvodina, the City of Subotica, and numerous partners and media partners.

This year, the festival will be held in compliance with all measures of Serbian Government and the Crisis Staff for the Suppression of the Infectious Disease Covid-19. The organizing team of the festival prioritizes the health and safety of the audience, as well as the guests and the festival team. The official protocol, with detailed instructions on measures during the festival, will be published in a timely manner before the event.
