The 27th European Film Festival Palić starts tomorrow!

This year's, the twenty-seventh edition of the European Film Festival Palić, starts tomorrow, on Saturday, September 12, and will last until September 18 in Palić and Subotica, organized by the Open University Subotica. This year, the festival is being held at EuroCinema and Lifka Art Cinema in Subotica, as well as at Abazija Cinema in Palić. The festival will be opened with a solemn ceremony in the EuroCinema at 8 pm, where Serbian legendary actress Mirjana Karanović will receive the Aleksandar Lifka Award for her contribution to European cinema. The festival program starts at 20:30 with THE NAME OF A PEOPLE by our celebrated director Darko Bajić, produced by Zillion Film and sponsored by the Government of AP Vojvodina. This achievement is a historical saga about Svetozar Miletić, a respected lawyer, former mayor of Novi Sad and one of the most important and influential Serbian politicians in Austria-Hungary in the second half of the 19th century.

In the main competition program – Official Selection, in addition to THE NAME OF THE PEOPLE, there will be 11 more European achievements. Programmer Nenad Dukić especially pointed out four films by renowned authors: One of the most important contemporary Italian directors Matteo Garrone with PINOCCHIO, the ultimate original version of the famous fairy tale with the great Robert Benigni in the role of Geppetto; famous French author of the older generation Philippe Garrel will be on the program with his new film THE SALT OF TEARS; veteran of Polish and world film Agnieszka Holland will be in competition with the new film CHARLATAN and one of the most distinctive German directors Christian Petzold is coming with the film UNDINE. As the "most intriguing and controversial film of the main program", Dukić pointed out the realization of NATASHA, one of the films from the extensive project DAU by Russian director Ilya Khrzhanovskiy. The Polish-Swedish film SWEAT by Magnus Von Horn is coming from the official selections of the Cannes Film Festival, while the PERSIAN LESSONS will present director Vladimir Perelman (HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG, LIFE BEFORE YOUR EYES ). Palić will also screen the WILDLAND by Danish director Jeanette Nordahl, VALAN by Hungarian director Bela Bagota, NADA by Norwegian director Marie Sødahl and 18% OF GRAY by Bulgarian director Viktor Chouchkov.

The competition selection of Parallels and Encounters program will show films DESPAIR by Latvian director Carlis Lesins, FELIX AUSTRIA aka MAID-IN-LAW by Ukrainian director Christina Sivolap, FOMO - FEAR OF MISSING by Attila Hartung from Hungary, FREM by Slovak director Vera Chakaniova, KILL  IT, END LEAVE THIS TOWN (Mariusz Vilczinski, Poland), MATRIARCH by Croatian director Jure Pavlović, PARTHENON by Lithuanian director Mantas Kvedaravičius, Austrian film ROYAL BLUE by Dinko Draganović, Serbian film TOMORROW IS STILL JULY directed by Dejan Vlaisavljevic Nikt, THE FORGOTTEN by Daria Onishchenko from Ukraine, SERVIANTS by Slovak director Ivan Ostrochovsky. Outside the competition, the program will screen THE FIRST BRIDGE by Laila Pakalnina from Latvia, I AM FRANK by Slovenian director Metod Pevec, INSEPARABLE by Marko Nabersnik and ROUNDS by Bulgarian director Stefan Komandarev.

Documentary HOLD ME RIGHT directed by Daniela Štajnfeld will be SCREENED in Serbia for the first time, at the festival. This achievement will be included in the program of the Palić festival on September 18 within New European Documentaries program as a special screening,.

Other Palić European Film Festival programs are Best of Europe, which consists of European films that marked the previous year, European Classics, Homages to Aleksandar LifkaAward Laureates and Homage to Underground Spirit Award laureate, New Hungarian Film and Bulgaria in Focus dedicated to cinemas of both countries, Young Spirit of Europe program for short and experimental forms, Eco Dox program dedicated to the challenges of environmental protection, EFA shorts, Zsigmond Vilmos and Special screenings.

At the 27th Festival edition the jury of the Main Competition Program, consists of Igor Ivanov (director and screenwriter), Michelle Carey (film programer) and Goran Radovanović (director), they will award the Golden Tower for the best film and the Palić Tower for the best director. The international critics jury, consisting of Jelena Đurović, Zoran Janković and Greg De Cuir Jr., will award the prize for the Best Film from Parallels and Encounters, and the FIPRESCI jury (Esin Kucuktepepinar, Viktor Paz, Anton Sidorenko) for the Best Film.

Within the 27th festival edition, audiences will once again have the opportunity to vote for the best film and the Gorki List Audience Award. Voting will be enabled at the Festival, but also through the official website of the European Film Festival Palić (https://www.palicfilmfestival.com/). This year, for the fifth time, audiences will take on an important and active role in perceiving the presented film art. That way, in addition to the expert jury, the opinion of the audience will be taken into account, thanks to whose loyalty and commitment to the film, the Festival lasts all these years.

European Film Festival Palić was supported by the European Union through the Creative Europe MEDIA program, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, the Provincial Secretary for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities of Vojvodina, the City of Subotica, and numerous partners and media.

This year's European Film Festival Palić will be held in compliance with all measures of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Crisis Staff for the Suppression of the Infectious Disease Covid-19. The organizing team of the festival prioritizes the health and safety of the audience, as well as the guests and the festival team. The official protocol, with detailed instructions on measures during the Festival, will be adopted and published in a timely manner before the start of the event.
