The Gorki List Audience Award of the 32nd European Film Festival Palić has been awarded to Teemu Nikki’s “100 Liters of Gold,” which was screened in the Official Selection program.
"100 Liters of Gold" is set in a small village in southern Finland, where middle-aged sisters Taina and Pirkko have promised to spend several weeks brewing 100 liters of their famous, strong, homemade beer, sahti, for a family wedding. But the batch turns out to be so tasty that they end up drinking it all themselves. While battling massive hangovers, they embark on a series of hilarious misadventures, racing against time to brew a new batch, save the wedding, and restore their reputation as the best sahti brewers in the village.
With this year’s 32nd edition, the long-standing partnership between Gorki List and the European Film Festival Palić continues. A loyal supporter of the festival for 29 years, Gorki List enriches the atmosphere and ambiance, encouraging viewers to think, react, and observe the world around them with heightened awareness. The Gorki List Audience Award invites the public to take an active role and, from their own perspective, evaluate the works of film art presented at the festival. In this way, alongside the expert jury's opinions, the festival also honors the views of its most numerous ‘jury’ – the loyal cinephiles whose dedication has sustained the festival over the years.
Acknowledging that audience criteria for choosing the best film often differ from those of the expert jury, the European Film Festival and Gorki List encouraged festival visitors to vote for their favorite film from this year’s rich program of European cinema. Now in its ninth consecutive year, the Gorki List Audience Award has reliably captured the pulse of audience preferences. The winning film receives a specially designed statue. P
revious laureates of the award include the Hungarian film "Kills on Wheels" by Attila Till (2016); "On Body and Soul" by Ildikó Enyedi in (2017); the Belgian-Dutch co-production "Girls” (2018); "Les Miserables" by French director Ladj Ly (2019); "The Name of the People" by Darko Bajić (2020); "Impure Blood – Sin of Ancestors" by Milutin Petrović (2021); "Close" by Lukas Dhont (2022); "The Old Oak" by Ken Loach (2023); and last year’s winner, “78 Days” by Emilija Gašić.
