On the seventh day of the European Film Festival Palić, on Friday, July 22, at the press conference on Great Terrace speakers were Istvan Borbas, laureate of the Underground Spirit award; Michel Hazanavicius, laureate of the "Aleksandar Lifka" Award; Ivan Kelava, Andrija Mardešić, David Kapac and Roko Sikavica - the crew of the film "Uncle", Emre Kajis, director of the film "Anatolian Leopard"; Nurdan Tekeouglu, producer of the documentary film "Untold Story of Fatma Kayaci"; Yelena Khokhlatkina, actress from the movie "Pamfir"; Dovilė Šarutytė, director of the film "Feature Film about Life", Ilija Tatić, executive producer of the European Film Festival Palić; and Radoslav Zelenović, the Festival director.
Istvan Borbas, laureate of the Underground Spirit Award, said: "I am very proud of this award, especially because of its name Underground Spirit. I was surprised by the fact that there are still people who follow my work with Andersson, so I'm very happy about the reception. I have been working with Roy since 1984 and in our work we especially dealt with figurative painting - we observed visual artists, how and on what basis they choose their motifs. It is often a seemingly unimportant motive, which then acquires a universal meaning".
Director Michel Hazanavicius, laureate of the "Aleksandar Lifka" Award in the category of foreign creators, said at the press conference: "It is a great honor and it is very touching when you see that the film is still important to some people. I want to thank the people who made this decision, as well as for the invitation to the Festival". Hazanavicius' film "Final Cut" will be shown at the closing of the 29 th European Film Festival Palić, and this Oscar-winning director revealed to the audience what he is currently doing: "I am working on an animated film. It is a story that takes place during the World War II, and it is about camps and deportations. It's not exactly a movie for children, but it's a wonderful story about love, solidarity and people saving other people."
Andrija Mardešić and David Kapac, the directors of the film "Uncle" with Miki Manojlović in the lead role, were delighted with the full hall of Abazija Cinema at the screening of their film. "For us it was like a rock concert", stated Kapac. About the idea of the film, he added: "We wanted to take some kind of memory, time, customs, habits and family relationships that we all share, and put them in several genre frames." Andrija Mardešić said about the cooperation with the main actor: "The choice of Miki Manojlović was very simple - because he is the best. We are huge fans of more or less everything he acted here and in France. If Tom Cruise was offered to us, we would prefer to work with Miki Manojlović".
Emre Kajis, director of the film "Anatolian Leopard" shown in the "Parallels and Encounters" section, said about his work: "I wanted to use a metaphor to portray people whose values are on the verge of extinction. The Anatolian leopard lives only in the mountains of this region, and this species is dying out. I think there is a natural connection between this animal and what I wanted to say with the film".
Nurdan Tekeouglu, producer of "Untold Story of Fatma Kayaci", shown in the New European Documentary Film section, reflected on the unusual life of the main protagonist: "After her cousin's accident, for which she was blamed, she fled to the mountains at an altitude of about 2,500 meters above sea level. In the midst of wild nature, she tries to survive. Animals are her friends. She lived alone for 55 years and became the legend of this district".
Yelena Khokhlatkina, actress in the film "Pamfir" in the Official Selection, talked about working on the film: "It was an incredible adventure, starting with the first expeditions and scouting. I had to master new dialect, and it was important for the director to really immerse ourselves in the life of the people from the region where we were filming. I learned to milk cows, ride wild horses, clean and work in the kitchen, and all the other actors had to prepare for the role in the similar way."
Dovilė Šarutytė, director of the film "Feature Film about Life" from the "Parallels and Encounters" section, spoke about the connection of this production with her personal life: "There are a lot of true events in the film. When I started writing the screenplay after my father's death, I wrote down the moments I remembered - those that represented a kind of curiosity and contrast, which are not suitable for sensitive situations. There are a lot of events from my life, but also a lot of fiction, as well as events from other people's stories."
Ilija Tatić, executive producer of the European Film Festival Palić, said about his impressions of this year's Festival edition: "The reactions of our guests and audience are extraordinary. It's a special feeling when you listen about positive things for seven days. For us, it is a reward for everything we have done in the past year. We are bringing the Festival to an end with great optimism and good emotions".
Radoslav Zelenović, the director of the Festival, expressed his opinion about the 29 th edition of the Festival: "For me, a special experience is the return of the audience, which was significantly bigger at the Summer Stage than in previous years. We created a festival that satisfied all parameters, and the Festival team from Subotica could do any festival in this area. We promise you that in September we will start working on the 30 th edition of the Festival. It is the great anniversary for us".Back to...
